Meet The Coach | Joe Sevart

Joe’s journey in the automotive industry began in 1976 when he started working at his father’s business, I-70 Auto Service. Initially, he took on tasks such as pumping gas, cleaning the shop, and performing oil changes. As his experience grew, so did his responsibilities. In 1983, Joe took over the management of the business. Determined to expand his knowledge and skills, he taught himself to become a drivability technician by extensively reading trade publications and attending various technical training programs.

Over the years, Joe’s commitment to continuous learning and professional development has been unwavering. He has attended the Vision High Tech training for over twenty years, keeping up with the latest advancements and industry best practices. In 2010, Joe’s perspective on business changed when he hired a business coach. This transformative experience led him to focus on working on the business rather than just in it. He strategically hired capable employees, allowing him to dedicate more time to the growth and development of I-70 Auto Service.

Under Joe’s leadership, I-70 Auto Service has flourished and earned a reputation as one of the top automotive shops in the Kansas City area. As a Napa Gold AutoCare and AAA shop, it is recognized for its exceptional service and commitment to customer satisfaction. Joe’s success has inspired him to mentor several shop owners, offering guidance and support during their own professional challenges. He has even worked in their shops to help them navigate difficult times.

Joe’s contributions extend beyond the boundaries of his business. He has been actively involved in the automotive community, serving as the Kansas City Napa BDG president, Kansas City ASA Chapter President, Vice President of MWACA, and Co-Chair for Vision High Tech Training for three years. He also served on the Napa AutoCare national council from 2012 to 2013 and was honored as the 2014 NAPA/ASE National Technician of the Year. In 2017, Joe earned his degree in Master Automotive Management from the Automotive Management Institute, further demonstrating his commitment to excellence.

Outside of work, Joe is deeply rooted in his community. He has taught a 12-week introductory automotive skills course to released inmates, facilitated children’s Sunday school classes, and led mission trips to Mexico and South Dakota. Joe has served on the Boards of a high school automotive career center and a local college, contributing to the development of future automotive professionals. Additionally, he has generously purchased and repaired cars to provide transportation to community members in need.

In his personal life, Joe has cherished a loving and lasting marriage to his high school sweetheart, Beth, for 43 years. They enjoy traveling, fishing, and spending quality time with their two children and six grandchildren.

As a Repair Shop of Tomorrow (RSOT) family member, Joe is honored to contribute his expertise and passion. His focus is to help fellow business owners achieve a 20% net profit, prepare their businesses for sale, and create opportunities for them to enjoy time away from their businesses. Joe’s dedication to supporting and guiding others in the industry is evident in his commitment to their success.
